29 year old contender Jamal “Shango” James (21-1, 9 KO’s) of Minneapolis, MN is preparing for another huge opportunity to help break into the upper echelons of the welterweight division. James will face 31 year old battle tested Diego Gabriel Chaves (26-2-1, 22 KO’s) on December 15 at the Pioneer Event Center in Lancaster, California. The 10 round fight will be televised on Fox Sports 1.
James dug deep while defeating former contender Jo Jo Dan by unanimous decision last July on Fox. The Minnesotan then hinted a few weeks ago at the Grand Casino Hinckley’s boxing show about a big time fight. The Chaves match will be James’ eighth consecutive fight outside of Minnesota where he’s faced other top up and coming prospects. Chaves has shared the ring with welterweight champion Keith Thurman, former champion Timothy Bradley, and Brandon Rios. Stay tuned for updates.
